College Gateways was founded on the premise that post-secondary planning should be organized, reflective, and meaningful. Susan knows it’s important to work with students in a student-centered, authentic, and creative way so that they may discover who they are and determine how to tell their own story. Choosing which college to attend is a valuable step toward preparing for the rest of your life and with over 30 years of school counseling experience, Susan understands the purpose and complexities of the application process.
College Gateways also provides Restorative Practices Training & the facilitation of Restorative Conversations to reduce harm and improve relationships.
- The purpose of a restorative conversation is not to place blame or hash out what happened in the past, but is designed to offer each person an opportunity to be heard and understood. We focus on what may be causing harm in the community and how it has personally affected each individual. We do not gather to decide whether any person(s) is/are good or bad but instead to improve understanding and build relationships. The goal is to give everyone a voice, the opportunity to be heard and understood, and finally a bridge to deciding how to make things right and move forward without further hurt/harm.
- Restorative Practices focuses on resolving conflict and preventing harm through conversations which can only happen if all parties are willing to attend. The facilitator(s) of the conversation communicate(s) with everyone prior to the meeting to propose what they can gain from this conversation, to familiarize participants with the structure of the conversations, and to assess their willingness to participate toward the goal of restoring relationships and healing harm.
